Homebuilt Wind Turbine Explained

Wind Power in China

Chinas population constitutes approximately 20% of the world’s population, but still they "only" consume 10% of the world’s energy. Compared internationally, their energy consumption is way below the average. With a rapid growing economy, it won’t be long until China’s energy consumption catches up with the rest of the world.

China has extensive wind energy resources, both offshore and inland. The industry is developing rapidly in China and receives strong government support. When reaching the end of 2005, China’s efforts has resulted in 59 farms consisting of 1,854 turbines collectively. This graded China as number ten nation in the world in the industry and the goal is to have 30 gigawatts of green energy in 2020.

National Debt Wind Power Program

The National Debt Wind Power Program was implemented to encourage construction of domestic wind power equipment. The program required, from the farm owners, purchase of wind power components fabricated locally. Bank loans were provided by China’s government with subsidized interest to compensate for the risk of using locally constructed components.

Guangdong Province

One of the best wind resources China have is located in the Guangdong Province, numerous large scale wind farms are located there. According to a report by Greenpeace, winds breezing through the province could be utilized in generating 35,000 gigawatt hours by 2020. This constitutes 17 percent of the province total power consumption in 2003. The province is ranked in fourth place among Chinas provinces regarding wind power generation.
